Newborn Studio Session

Newborn Studio sessions take roughly 1-4 hours in our warm, comfortable Blenheim studio.
These sessions are the very opposite of our mini sessions, with plenty of time for cuddles, sleepy posing, feeding (all of us) and inevitably pooping (that’s just baby), and more beautiful poses.
Full Newborn sessions are best suited for a baby under 2 weeks if you’re wanting squishy, sleepy, newborn images. Babies slightly older are ok too, but they’ll be more wakeful and engaged. Petite Newborn sessions will suit babies up to 6 weeks old.
We’ll be 100% guided by what your baby is responding to, and feels in the mood for. A typical session will produce roughly 20 gorgeous images on 2-4 different colour palettes or themes.
For the FAMILY newborn sessions we love Mum and Dad to be included, as well as siblings, but it’s important siblings are only there for their portion of the session, and then get taken away again – trust me, this will keep you all relaxed!
Once we’ve had our session, we will curate and prepare your images for viewing back in the studio at a time that suits you.
The pricing below comes with two to four matted 5×7″ fine art prints and matching digital files depending on your session choice. You can either choose to stick to your few favourites, or purchase a package that includes prints, woodprints or an album. Don’t worry, we’ll help you with that part so it’s not too overwhelming. Product packages start from $250.
We can only take on a very small number of these newborn sessions, as the studio is booked out for all kind of other goodies as well, so if this does sound like you, please get in touch before baby is born so we can pencil you in, otherwise drop us a note the minute baby arrives (or maybe slightly thereafter is ok too). We’re only doing these on certain weekdays in the morning from about 10am.

The experience was great. Everything catered on our newborn experience was what we loved in terms of snacks and refreshments. It was so nice watching the photos been taken and our daughter being swaddled by Emily perfectly. Seeing how well the girls were with our baby made the experience lovely because we could relax and take it all in. I think what we’ve received has been something we’ll treasure forever.
We’ve never had professional photos taken in a studio before and didn’t know what to expect. We felt relaxed and like we were at home by the end of the session. The set up in the studio is excellent. Bathroom, change table, snacks and a kids play area. It’s well set up. The photographer knowledge was evident and even more so when we received our photos. The ease of the whole session with a newborn and a 2yr old and the relaxed atmosphere was our favourite part of the session. Our 2yr old spoke about it for a few weeks, then once the photos went up on the walls, she spoke about it again every day.
We loved coming into the studio for our newborn shoot, it was calm, warm and inviting. The girls were amazing with our baby. Nothing felt rushed, they were patient and are great at their soothing and comforting skills! We got some great pictures of our whole family we will treasure forever. We really appreciate you allowing our dog Rocky into the studio for some final pictures. He ended up passing away about a week later and I am so so grateful we got these memories of him in such an important time of our lives. We miss him terribly and having these family photos mean the world to us. My favourite part was how relaxed the atmosphere was. You made it a chill and peaceful environment, which is what a mum wants when she is still trying to learn the ropes of this parent business!
Our experience was lovely, Fisher was only a few days old and he was handled so gently and lovingly. There was plenty of time for feeds to settle him. You treated him like the little treasure that he is, it was a great experience. I remember feeling quite nervous letting other people hold my new baby, even with family members, which was just my instincts as a brand new mum. In the studio you guys were so gentle and loving with him, if he got upset he was quickly resettled. You were so sweet with him and I felt very comfortable. Having the photos to look back at is the best thing ever, they are only little for such a short time, the photos are so precious.
My overall experience in the studio was an absolute dream. From the moment I walked into the studio, it was calm, warm and Welcoming. Jess and Emily were very well organised and tended to my daughters needs promptly all while they allowed us to sit back and relax and watch the magic unfold! Jess and Emily walked us through each step of how they were posing Harlow and made us feel very involved in the whole process of the session and were constantly communicating with us. The end results were absolutely amazing and will always hold a special place in my heart, they captured everything we could’ve wanted. I couldn’t recommend Chunky llama enough, it really was the most beautiful experience.
Emily and her family were amazing with my newborn twin girls and my husband who was very anxious about being in the photos. Handing your new babies to someone is difficult but seeing how she handled them and love she has for children helped put me at ease. Getting to relax, watch and enjoy the experience was a great bonus. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. I love looking back at those photos and remembering how tiny and amazing my girls were. I was concerned about how much it would cost but as soon as I saw them being posed and the adorable photos popping up I knew it was easily worth it. The love and experience Emily has is reflected in the photos and I am so grateful to her and her family. Thank you for an amazing experience!
Your studio was comfortable and warm considering my baby was still a newborn at the time of the session. Emily was so great and excellent in doing her job, the photos are so lovely, and my family back home praised them that Andres looked so adorable in those photos. My favourite part was seeing the end result and we love it. It was a great experience.
I loved how calm and patient both Emily and Jess were during the entire session. From the moment we walked into the studio I was able to just sit and relax while Emily and Jess took the lead. Every step of the process was made clear. Even the choosing session felt personalized and it just made the whole experience feel extra special! My favorite part was seeing Lukas in the cutest outfits and poses, all in my favorite colors and so incredibly cute! Emily has a beautiful touch with babies and while I was treated with a little snack platter, my baby was in the most caring hands! I also loved the fact that I could sit and have a rest for about 3 hours. There wasn’t a single image that I didn’t love. The most amazing photographs with so much detail! Definitely a must-do for anyone wanting the most gorgeous keepsakes of their little ones!
The whole experience for us was extremely great and very welcoming. I loved how Emily calmed my baby when she started to cry. Love her enthusiasm! Both Emily and her sister are so nice – I remember we were late to the session on that day as our baby was not feeling very well but Emily waited us so patiently and we could see she’s still excited to capture our baby’s pictures. Highly recommend them. Perfect atmosphere and setup.
My overall experience was amazing in the studio. From when I stepped foot into the room it was warm and calm with some lovely music in the background and everything was just set up and ready to go. My newborn shoot took a few hours and Emily and Georgia were so amazing at taking their time and doing what my baby needed. I really loved how I was able to just sit down with a drink and nibbles provided by the lovely girls and watch them pose my baby girl for the incredibly cute pictures they were taking, and the result was exactly what I was wanting!! Made it so hard to choose which pictures I liked more, and I would one hundred percent suggest chunky llama to anyone who is looking to get any pregnancy or new born photos to please try it because it was truly the most amazing experience.
Friendly people, fantastic photography skills and they were both so good with our newborn. We felt very well looked after and they were very patient. They offered snacks to us while they were busy taking photos which I thought was a great gesture. I loved that we were talked through most things as we went along, made us understand everything they were doing. The result was incredible – all our newborn photos were impeccable and so very cute. Emily is such a fantastic photographer. My favourite part was sitting back and enjoying it all while the ladies took care of our baby, changing him into cute outfits and posing him. Just overall everything was great.
Our experience in the studio was so calm and peaceful. The studio felt cozy and warm, and everybody was so welcoming and patient, I truly felt so relaxed. I loved how incredibly patient everyone was with Grayson, nobody felt rushed and his needs were responded to straight away if he needed something. My favourite part was the absolute peacefulness. I was able to sit back, enjoy a food platter whilst the team worked on beautifully posing our baby. Everyone was so great at soothing him, I couldn’t believe how relaxed he was. Our newborn pictures are so special to us, I can’t thank everyone enough!
